ADVISORS, YOU ARE THE BACKBONE OF OUR ORGANIZATION. The CFEA Board thanks you for all your hard work and dedication!

ADVISORS, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SUBMIT YOUR POST’S APPLICATION PACKETS AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPLETE.

Eric Verwey, our CFEA President handles the application process. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact him via e-mail everwey@cfea.net. If you have a question regarding the web-site or problems with the on-line application, please email info@cfea.net.

Explorers

The Explorer Application has FIVE parts. Please make sure that the following items are completed for each explorer application. Make sure their names are spelled correctly and they all put the same name for department e.g. LA city fire vs Los Angeles City Fire.

  1. CFEA online application. This alone does not guarantee acceptance.
  2. Advisor Certification Page
  3. Academy Participation Agreement – Explorer/Cadet
  4. Explorer Code of Conduct
  5. $300 fee

*** It is NO LONGER necessary to submit your Post Roster or Proof of insurance. Advisors ARE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPERLY REGISTERING THEIR OWN EXPLORERS/CADETS ATTENDING THE ACADEMY.

*** According to the Learning for Life website, Tour (Outing) Permits are no longer required. Some LFL Councils still require the submission of an Online Outing Permit. Check with your local council for guidance. ***

PLEASE RETURN ALL COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKETS FOR YOUR POST TOGETHER!

No refunds will be issued if a cancellation is received after Sunday March 1st, 2020.

Captains and Chief Officers

One of the strongest attributes the explorers develop during the academy is LEADERSHIP. Each year 10 chief officers and 24 captains are selected to lead the 166 cadets attending the academy. Explorers that you feel will make good candidates for officer positions are encouraged to apply. The Post Advisor must submit a LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION for any explorer that is applying for the position of Captain or above. Chief Officers, in addition to the letter of recommendation, must also submit a LETTER OF INTEREST/INTENT and a RESUME. Please include this information with the Explorer/Cadet's application.

Scholarships – NEW FOR 2020

We are happy to announce the CFEA is offering the Rob VanWormer Memorial Scholarship for this years’ Academy.

Advisors

The California Fire Exploring Academy is an amazing undertaking that requires the support and participation of over 100 Advisors to ensure safety and success during the week. We know many of you take personal time off and spend your own money to attend. We cannot thank you enough for your support.

You are required to submit an application with CFEA. In addition to the application you must also sign and return an Advisor Participation form. Applications and forms can be found at the links below. Please send all advisor information in with your explorer applications. You must be registered with Learning for Life and listed as an advisor on your annual roster from the Boy Scouts of America. For insurance reasons you must also be sponsored by your respective agency. In order to maintain a lower cost for the cadets we have established an advisor fee of $100 this covers food, shirts and other misc. items.  If you have any questions regarding these requirements feel free to contact CFEA staff.

Advisor application has 3 parts:

  1. CFEA on-line advisor application
  2. Advisor Participation Agreement
