How to Apply

There are five steps to the application process:

Please print this page out and check that all items have been completed and returned to your advisor. Also please make sure your name is spelled correctly and your entire post writes the same name for your department. e.g. LA city fire vs Los Angeles city Fire. Check with your Advisor!

If you have problems with the web-site please check with your advisor if he/she is unable to assist you contact Gavin Illingworth by email gillingworth@cfea.net
  1. Print and give to advisor: Advisor Certification
  2. Sign and return to advisor: Academy Participation Agreement
  3. Sign and return: Code of Conduct form
  4. Forward a check made payable to CFEA for $300.00 to your advisor
  5. Submit CFEA Explorer application electronically

Your application will remain pending until processed by CFEA staff.

If you are interested in applying as a Captain or Chief Officer you must be recommended by your advisor, and have attended a previous academy. Applicants must also have a letter of recommendation from their advisor. Chief officer candidates must submit letter of intent and resume.


We are unfortunately are unable to offer scholarships this year due to budget cuts however there is a scholarship fund setup by CFES(California Fire Exploring Scholarship) . It can be found at Californiafirefighter.com

Return all forms to your advisor.  Your advisor will mail your entire post applications in one packet to the following address:
